Are You Actually Ready for a Promotion, or Just Hoping?

Ask before you're ready and you risk an awkward conversation with your manager. Wait too long and you watch someone with a weaker case get promoted first. Promotability Score gives you a real number, not a gut feeling, so you know which one you're facing.

What your Promotability Score actually measures

You already know you've been putting in the work. What you don't know is whether it adds up to a case your manager, and whoever sits above them, would actually approve. Promotability Score replaces that guess with a number built from four equal-weight pillars.

  1. Documentation. Do you have evidence of your work: wins logged and coverage across your rubric?
  2. Visibility. Do decision-makers beyond your manager know what you've done?
  3. Manager Alignment. Has your manager actually said promotion is possible, and are they behind you?
  4. Clarity. Do you know your rubric, your review timeline, and how the decision actually gets made?

Why the score has hard caps

It would be easy to build a score that just climbs the more you log. That's not what this is. Promotability Score has three hard caps, so a high number always means something real:

  • Capped at 50 until you've had the actual conversation with your manager, the single biggest unlock the score tracks.
  • Capped at 80 until your manager has explicitly said a promotion is possible, not just that you're doing well.
  • Capped at 90 without documented evidence spread across your rubric categories, not just your strongest one or two.

The caps exist so the score tells you the truth about what's blocking you, not just how much you've logged.

What your score means

Your score falls into one of five ranges:

  1. 15-30: Getting Started. Major gaps in the basics.
  2. 31-50: Building Foundation. You're missing manager alignment.
  3. 51-70: Making Progress. Your manager is aware, and you're building evidence.
  4. 71-85: Strong Position. Good evidence, supportive manager.
  5. 86-100: Ready to Advocate. All the pieces are in place.

We'll be honest with you

A high Promotability Score can't guarantee a promotion decision, and no honest tool can. Calibration, headcount, and org priorities are outside your control. What the score can do is make sure that when you do ask, your case is as strong as it can be, and that you're not guessing about what's missing.
